USC med school dean spends $3.36M in Pasadena

Drs. Carmen Puliafito and Janet Pine bought an eight-bedroom, eight bath home at 1365 S. Los Robles Ave. in Pasadena from Atty. Joseph O. Batyko III for $3.36 million on Nov. 7, 2007.

Dr. Puliafito is the dean of the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, a position he assumed in 2007. He is also a professor of ophthalmology and health management at the Doheny Eye Institute.

Prior to joining the medical school at USC, he served as director of the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and chair of the Department of Ophthalmology of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. During his tenure at Bascom Palmer, the U.S. News and World Report's ranked the institute No. 1 in 2004.

Before Bascom Palmer, Puliafito served as founding director of the New England Eye Center and chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at Tufts University. He started his career at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary at Harvard Medical School.

He earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed his residency at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He also holds an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

His wife, Janet Pine, is also a doctor and a former classmate at Harvard.
