Artist sells Santa Monica condo for $1.14M

Dewey D. Ajioka and his wife, Sumire, sold a two-bedroom, two-bath Unit #405 at 1118 Third St. in Santa Monica for $1.14 million to James G. Gerstley and his wife, Caroline, on Jan. 29.

The Ajiokas paid $375,000 for the 1,667-square-foot Unit #405 in December 1997.

Mr. Ajioka is a retired English professor who used to work at Los Angeles City College.

He is known in Santa Monica for his artistic work in sketching people in the community, with particular interest in the homeless.

Mr. Ajioka has been featured and interviewed on the radio show "Offramp," which also has a segment of their podcast devoted to him.

The condominium building was built in 1982 and houses 43 units.
