Engineer settles into Santa Monica condo

Morris S. Farkas bought the two-bedroom, three-bath condo Unit #3 at 1108 18th St. in Santa Monica from Kevin S. Shepela for $880,000 on Jan. 12.

The Wilshire Montana condo development was built in 1981.

Mr. Farkas is a licensed professional safety engineer consultant who has worked with Cal-Trans, Cal-OSHA and the California Public Utilities Commission. He's also taught at California State University, the University of Southern California, Cerritos College and Long Beach College.

He earned a degree in civil engineering from San Jose State University, a masters degree in public administration and a masters of science degree in safety from the University of Southern California.

Shepela is a vice president of business development at Ripple Networks, a digital signage company based in Segundo. He's also worked with Yahoo! Entertainment, Movielink, LLC and The Market Channel.

He attended Pepperdine University and UCLA.

There were 412 condo sales in Santa Monica in 2008, with a median sales price of $778,000.
