The 1,527-square-foot house was built in 1956.

Mr. Schaar is the owner and president of Ostaar Real Estate Services, Inc., based in Irvine. He previously worked for Shell Oil Co., where his responsibilities included the acquisition of land for Shell's exploration and production departments throughout the United States.

He received his B.S. degree in business administration from the University of Southern California School of Business.

There were 135 sales in Malibu in 2008, with a median price of $2.495 million.
