Dempsey, 43, has a career dating back to the mid 1980s, but he's best known as Dr. Derek Shepherd from the ABC smash hospital drama "Grey's Anatomy." He's been a mainstay on the show since its inception in 2005, earning a pair of Golden Globe nominations in 2006 and 2007 for his rendition of the often romantically conflicted "Dr. McDreamy."

He's also ventured into film, including turns in the 2008 romantic comedy Made of Honor and the 2007 musical Enchanted with Amy Adams. Other Dempsey films include Freedom Writers, Sweet Home Alabama and Scream 3. He also made a splash as Ronald Miller, the rags-to-riches lawnmower boy who becomes popular in the 1987 hit teen comedy Can't Buy Me Love.

Dempsey is married to Jillian Fink, the founder of cosmetics line Delux Beauty.

Dempsey's "Grey's Anatomy" cast mate Jeffrey Dean Morgan paid $1.9 million for a home in Studio City in December. Kate Walsh, who played Dempsey's wife on the show before leaving for her own spinoff, spent $4.75 million for a home in Griffith Park in July 2007.
