Actor Forest Whitaker sells for $975K

Forest Whitaker and his wife, actress Keisha Nash-Whitaker, sold a three-bedroom, two-bath home at 6406 Flagmoor Place in Los Angeles for $975,000 to Michael Scott Ladish and Vance Lorenzini on Jan. 28.

The 1,646-square-foot home, built in 1958, is located in the Hollywood United neighborhood.

Whitaker is an acclaimed actor and won the 2007 Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland. He is the fourth African-American to win Best Actor, following in the footsteps of Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington and Jamie Foxx.

Whitaker has a long history of working with well-respected directors and actors including roles in Martin Scorsese's The Color of Money with Paul Newman and Tom Cruise, Oliver Stone's Platoon, and Good Morning Vietnam with Robin Williams. He made his film debut in Amy Heckerling's '80s classic Fast Times At Ridgemont High.

In addition to film, he has a recurring role as ex-LAPD Lieutenant Jon Kavanaugh on the award-winning television series "The Shield" and received an 2007 Emmy nomination for his role as Curtis Ames on "ER."

He began producing and directing in the early 1990s. He co-produced A Rage In Harlem in 1991 and made his directorial debut with Waiting to Exhale in 1995.

Whitaker was born in Longview, Texas, but moved to South Central Los Angeles in 1965.

He studied to be an operatic tenor at USC, but later focused on acting and the performing stage.
